01 - Just Go
So yeah, we did it, we pulled the trigger. We put all our stuff we couldn't bring with us into a 5x10 storage locker, and piled our instruments and amps into a tiny 4-door sub-compact car with 230,000 miles on it and went on tour. We had 4 hours worth of originals, we had another hour or two of covers. We sang harmony. We had two CDs, some stickers, and some business cards in a merch box. We figured why the fuck not.
You can do it too.
It's fun, fantastic, scary, romantic, soul-crushing, awesome, exciting, terrifying.
This is the story of how we did it. We did everything wrong. We did everything right. It was spectacular. It was horrible. I swear I'll never do it like this again. I'd do it again in a second. I'm probably doing it right now as you read this.
It started like this... driving into a snowstorm in Iowa in early February. Getting forced off the interstate in a blizzard. Finding a $50 motel room. Writing the first couple verses of what became the first song of our third album... Desperately fighting not to fall in love. Reveling in crazy bewildered blizzard sex. You know, like all stories start. But wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. It really started about a year earlier. When we met over a shot of whiskey. In a dive bar on the north side of Chicago. Because no good story starts with salad. It's blizzards and whiskey baby, blizzards and whiskey.
